french toast can be both savory & sweet? c’est possible! :)

so believe it or not, this was my first try at making homemade french toast. (surprising, i know, considering how much i love brunch-a-roo!) this weekend, i was inspired by the lovely artisan sourdough bread from sidewalk citizen bakery that i found at my fave cheese shop. the taste & texture of the sourdough is perfect for french toast — soaking up the egg and complementing the flavourful toppings.

back to the savory & sweet… although traditional recipes for french toast call for a simple bread-egg mixture with some sort of sweet flavour like cinnamon or maple syrup, why not add some cheese for a little pizzazz? :) i was looking for something savory to pair nicely with the sweet lavender honey and dried figs from my pantry. snaps to the wonderful staff at janice beaton fine cheese, who helped me navigate the seemingly endless varieties of cheese… the winner: chevre frais (fresh goat cheese). yummers.

prep the toast:
– whisk 1 large egg in medium prep bowl
– soak 2 thick slices of artisan sourdough bread (on both sides, until egg mixture is absorbed into bread)
